I need to do more tracking days with this bassist...I love ma Dynaudios but I'm gonna hve 2 get a sub for tracking sessions. Anyone using BM6a's with a BX30 sub? r they a good match? |

Unless this project is making you big cash, Give the bassist some bassy-ass headphones and save up for some monitors that produce more bass. I've used bm5 & sub in the past (pretty much the same), worked well, but not as good as monitors that just do it IMHO

If he needs his bass to fill the room, plug him into a bass amp. If he blew out my BM6's I'd plug him.

I use my BM6A with a BX30. I tell you this: with a BX30 you could do a rock concert. That thing is so loud - it's way too much power for those little BM6A - but I really love the combination of those Never had any bass problems since I bought the sub. Jo |

How do BM6a and BX30 work together? Can you just turn off the Sub and work with the monitors alone?

Sorry but you can't It's the only drawback of that combo I can think of. btw I never really have the desire to switch it off - but you never know .... Jo

They offer a new line of subwoofers with a remote control. You can switch them on/off using the remote.

I'm wondering whether I need that feature I tweaked my monitoring for so long why should I want to tear it all apart with the turn of a knob? - dunno reallyI feel really comfortable with less monitoring options. I have to get used to the monitors I listen too (and that takes longer than half a year!!!! it even takes longer than a year man - at least for me) Now bring in the switchable sub and off I am for another 2 years IMNSHO Jo |

I mean, I mostly do Rock music and I do not need a sub all the time. I've never used one in my studio but many people say that phasing problems or other strange things can appear. Did you experience that? I think it would be great to have a switchable sub just to get used to it. If you're not sure what's happening, you can always go back to the old system. The BM6As do have a great bass response for their size. But for real subbass efx it' s not enough. |

the phase thing is the hardest part with working with a sub. I tweaked my sub for a very long time (positioning/phase/volume). Now it's just as perfect as it can get for me in my room - taking the sub out of the equatation would be like mixing on another set of speakers - but that's just me.Jo oh and yes the BM6A have a nice low end on their own - so when you don't have to monitor too loud they're just perfect. |
