CAD E300 vs. AT 4050

Hi,

I'm sending my RNP back today and exchanging it for something else. I liked it a lot on acoustic guitars, but it didn't work for my voice. I have about $550 to play with this month. I think I need a new mic, so...

Anyone here have experience with the AT 4050?

I already have a CAD E300 that does the fig 8, omni, etc.. It's pretty bright, but nice. How does the AT 4050 compare? Is it clinical or boring sounding? It would be nice to have another multipattern mic, but with a little more soul to it than the CAD. I tried the AKG 414 TLII and didn't like it so much on vocals.

Also, any advice on good preamp matchups for these mic's would be helpful. I'll have $2000 to play with next month. I'm thinking of the Seventh Circle N72 and API combo, or just the MP2NV. I don't want too clean of a sound (the hardy sound won't work for me, i don't think). I'm looking for a recording sound that's (don't laugh) a mix of something like Nick Drake Pink Moon and D'Angelo's Voodoo album. I actually like the chunkiness of the Art tube MP for my vocals, and hated the RNP on my voice, e.

TIA,
Brendan

I use the Great River-AT4050 set-up all the time. You can track a very high % of sources with this set-up. Plus the GR makes a killer di for bass and keys.

Hard to go wrong with this pair.
