Best mixing levels from tools?

Hi I was wandering what is the best output levels from tools to feed to a desk ? I have a makie 32 which isn't the best desk so the summing isn't great and sometimes sounds like too much is getting squashed together , I was wandering if it would help if I lowered the internals levels from tools so they wouldn't hit the desk si hard ? Thanks , Brett .

1. Get your mix together the way you do it now.

2. Group all your tracks together in "tools".

3. Pull the group down (or up) while raising your monitor level up (or down) to keep the listening level consistent.

4. See if you can find a sweet spot.

If not, don't worry about it. If you do, note how hard you're hitting the console.

+1 on this. The sweet spot will be a little different on every console and you do not really need to worry about levels in the analog domain to the same degree you need to worry about them in the digital domain.
