I suppose this means all the native WinXP Vst producers will soon be able to download a "trial" version. Kudos to URS for giving away their plugins to the Wintel masses.

URS use iLok protection.. you need an iLok for a demo.

These things are way too expensive when you consider the competition from PSP, Voxengo, and Sonalksis (especially the DQ1). Being a slut, I'm sure I will break down and try them though.

When you'll try the URS, you'll understand they're excellent value for money

Did anyone see they are also available for the Mackie Digital X 200 PRO Mixing Console? It's cool that you can use EQ plugin's as good as these outside the DAW environment.

The new Mackie console is basically a PC. I think you could run any VST plugin on it.

Wow,

In Nuendo, I managed to load around 144 instances of the A series and 114 of the N series before system response started to become sluggish.

I noticed that the VST versions include stereo.
The TDM and RTAS versions are multi-mono.

I will perform some in-depth track count tests tomorrow after my session and report my results but it's looking very favorable.

Looking forward to making good use of these fine sounding plugins.

When you loaded those 144 instances of the EQ, were they actually active and processing audio tracks? If they were just sitting idle and not having audio run through them, they will use very little resources and that figure is meaningless. If all those 144 eqs were actually processing the audio in realtime, then that is indeed impressive. Still a rip-off though, if you consider the competition from Voxengo and TriTone Digital.

The URS Plug-ins are very efficient.

BTW until you've actually compared them to the Voxengo, etc.. (and used them in a mix) you should reserve judgment. The URS EQ's are in a league of their own IMO.

Yes it's true I have not used them in a mix. Still Voxengo's GlissEQ which is a dynamic EQ with amazing sound quality can be bought for $70. Have you used the Voxengo EQs? I am guessing that the URS eqs are quite a bit more efficient though based on the numbers quoted in this thread. I still have a feeling that Hydratone is going to slaughter all other plugin EQs. Too many people swear Oxford and URS EQ is as good as it gets...but I definately don't think so. I think digital EQs are just beginning to mature and the best is yet to come.

Anyway I can't justify dropping $40 on an iLok just to test a demo. I'm just a broke college student. If I was going to spend over $400 on DAW stuff, I would buy a 3rd UAD-1 card, which is a lot more versatile than two EQs. Sorry if it sounds like I'm knocking the URS stuff without really trying it, it is just the price that puts me off.

Since you're a college student, you'd get educational discount from URS.

Talking

Ahh student discounts!

I didn't know URS did them. It seems like roughly half the companies out there offer this. Thanks for the tip...maybe I will have to get that iLok now! API and Neve EQs are definately my favorites besides Pultecs.

Brian,

You should really try them before making these comments. I love the Voxengo stuff especially GlissEQ but its about to be retired now that I've tried these URS ones. And with the 50% discount I got for being a teacher they are not expensive at all.

Pluggo 3.5 for Windows is already out now. The TriTone plugins are on the way...hopefully I won't even want to think about the URS plugins when Hydratone is out.

Yes, I'm sorry if I came off sounding like a jackass. I realize I probably shouldn't have made such comments. Still, I'm too much of a cheap bastard to shell out $40 just to try the demo for one product that I probably will not purchase.

This thread is pretty interesting, scroll to the bottom:
http://www.3daudioinc.com/cgi-bin/ul...&f=14&t=002490

So it appears this new EQ from TriTone will offer convolution-based samplings of real hardware EQs, with per-band switchable color, and an overall color with variable harmonic saturation. Sounds good to me!

Would you say the urs plugs are much better than the Sonalksis? I was getting ready to buy. I hate to buy an iLok and then not need it if I don't buy. But if the feedback is that the URS plugs are way better then I'll give it a try.

I haven't been able to find out where to purchase student-rate copies of URS plugins - I looked through their website and couldn't locate it from the URS store or several dealers. Any leads? This student is looking to buy...

Just spent the day with the URS classic console bundle, sonalksis and hydratone beta (tritone digital) along with Valvetone. I like the urs better than the sonalksis overall, but none of them even touch the tritone digital. So save your money, you won't be sorry! They are quite expensive on cpu though comparitively speaking. But I heard Salvator is optimizing them right now.

Yep, ours are a little more CPU intensive, but, you can't get something for nothing. It takes juice.

However, we expect 30-40% better performance in the public release due out this week or next: best to do the optimizations as the last step.

The URS A and N demo versions worked in Sonar 4 but they crashed it everytime you tried deleting them.

I never heard of the tritone stuff, will there be VST versions ?
That is a good question.

If they are as good as I hear they are then I think it would be a good marketing idea to make them available to PC/MAC RTAS/TDM/VST users. There are alot of VST plugin DAW users out there and that would be a great potential client pool right??

I would think anyway... what do I know.....

The Tritone plugs work with vst, and rtas also. Not HTDM I think.
And yes they are that good. My hydratone beta version expired today and boy do the mixes sound worse! I had to do a quicky master with the sonalksis, and boosting a high end shelf made me gasp in horror! When I do that with Hydratone I usually make it too bright, because it just gets better the more you boost.

Thermos,

Shoot Salvator an email and he will hook you up with an extension onthe beta so you can finish your mastering in style :)

Thanks for all the praise; it does both Salvator and I's hearts a lot of good to hear how others are digging the plugins...
