Amp Modeling Software w/ Outboard Pedals

Hey everyone.

I read that Digidesign's Eleven claims to respond very well to a signal already put through a real outboard pedal, and this sparked a few questions for me:

1) Can anyone verify this?
2) Does it respond the same way real amps would respond or does it just respond differently in a weird way because the signal is different?
3) I have heard that a DI with an outboard pedal never sounds the way it was intended to sound. Is that true and is there a way around that?
4) Is Guitar Rig 3 supposedly responsive to pedals as well?

Thanks.

I've certainly found amp sims to sound better (or at least more realistic) if you add a pedal to the front end.

I've yet to hear an amp sim that responds like a real amp but if you use a pedal you are asking the sim to do less work, which I think sounds better.

Most of it (to my ears) is down to harmonic generation, computers are still really struggling to get that consistently pleasing in the way an amp can.

Could you recommend anything as a good starting pedal to go along with the sim? I am looking into an Analog.man modded TS808.

I'm not a guitar player at all but pedals that can impart a little overdrive work well in my limited experience of amp sims. Things like a Boss SD1.
