Quick question

i need to test a few pres. i wanna record the 1 mic through 3 different pres to find out which pres sounds best for the artist. i don't wanna keep unpluging the mic then connect another pre.. i want 1 take to go through 3 pres and i choose which one sounds best... is there a way i can do this?

The only way there from here is to use a mic splitter. But, then, You'll be hearing the x-formers in the splitter.

Do you have 3 matched microphones?

If your mic panel is run through a patchbay you can just switch between mics that way.

The problem is it will change the loading of the preamps from the microphone, and different preamps will react differently to the change.

So you may or may not hear the normal sound you would hear from that microphone with a given preamp. You either need to switch between them or have 3 microphones matched reasonably close. Even then, all 3 mics' can't be in the same exact position at the same time.

just out of curiousity if you were to use a splitter or some type of utility box to do what Divine Music describes, how do you handle a phantom power situation? Who supplies the 48 volts?
