Thread Starter | A2D recording technique for FAT tracks
Picked this one up from another forum and had to share this after trying it - Mic up a guitar amp as usual with channel one. Of course it's normalled to the converter. Take the analog out from channel one into a compressor (I used the FATSO) then compressor into the channel two "A/D input". You now have two tracks of the same sound - one clean and the other compressed (to taste of course). Man, this helps give you fat tracks You have the straight mic pre at a higher level, then bring up the compressed track to taste which will make the sound much fuller. The FATSO is great for this. The most analog sounding tracks I've made to date! |

works great on vocals too. I actually haven't tried bussing both to one track on the tape machine, but I think I'll try that next. I'm imagining THICK! | |

Thread Starter | yep, if anyone has doubts about the A2D they should try it and they will be sold. What a difference it makes in guitar tracks. Fills it up, dare I say like tape! tutt

Yes, parallel compression is a very solid way to fatten up guitars (and other things).

Thread Starter | Plus it makes it easier, rather than spending time with multiple mics and possible phase issues, or double tracking and getting things real tight. Just do this simple thing with the A2D and your done...!

it doesn't hurt that squeezing electric guitar is arguably what the original fatso does best. gregoire del ubk . |

It's pretty much how I treat every bass guitar track these days.
