| Speck Electronics X.sum for X.drums? Vince -- thanks for introducing us to your thoughts on the X.sum! I have immediately started thinking about how to fit one into my studio (which, at 1U, is not that hard). Thinking out loud, it strikes me that this could be a great drum/bass submixer, and I'm posting here to see what other ideas people have. The idea: via a patchbay, feed the X.sum with bass and as many drum inputs as needed. Take mults from the PB to feed EQ and efx for each thing you want effected: * stereo chorus on bass (1 out 2 in) * kick and snares getting the "split EQ" treatment (2x 1 out 3 in) * kick and snares getting perhaps also a room or plate effect (2x 1 out 1 in) * toms getting room or plate effects (1 out 1 in for each tom) * etc. Again, thinking out loud: 1. Bass and kick mono'd 2. Bass efx in (stereo) 3. Snare in (mono, to pan) 4. Kick and snare efx mono'd 5. HH in (mono, to pan) 6. HH efx in (stereo) 7. OH in (stereo) 8. OH efx in (stereo) 9. Bass split EQ (low, lo-mid) mono'd 10. Bass split EQ (hi-mid, high) mono'd 11. Kick split EQ (low, lo-mid) mono'd 12. Kick split EQ (hi-mid, high) mono'd 13. Snare split EQ (low, lo-mid) mono'd 14. Snare split EQ (hi-mid, high) mono'd That leaves two channels which could be filled 15. Percussion (stereo) 16. Percussion efx (stereo) The one thing missing is the ability to do a final merge with a compressed submix. I guess you cannot have everything. BTW, the above could sell a lot of ASCs! |
