Hey,

Calm down, I just PM'd you and I did not have a problem.

Could the people you're PM'ing have full inboxes?

There is an issue about the size of the inbox. Even if you do not have any PMs in your inbox, any saved PMs will count as if they're in the inbox.

I read something about this on another gearslutz forum.

good luck dude.

What about the if you take to much time over your post like me, I like staring at my dark dingy walls, and then hit submit and your 2 hour long essay is smoke (timed out). The lesson I've learned is to right click copy, paste.

Jules can you help one digit typers?

Johnthan at Little Labs told me my box was full when I saw him at NAMM. This was odd because I clean my box out after I read the messages. Then I looked in my "sent messages" folder and saw a ton of messages I sent. After I cleaned them out, it worked for me.

Yes, again...
That's what happens. All saved messages get added into the inbox total.

That is why I do not save any sent or read messages unless they are very important. I cut and paste them into another file outside GS.

For now, it's the only way to do it.

FWIW, vBulletin boards are the best thing going for this medium (Gearslutz is a vB board.)

I host a couple of them and they're not without the occasional hickup, but then what is.

Wanna know how this stuff works ?

.. that would be the time to click f.a.q. at the top of any page.

Agreed,

vBulletin rocks. Very functional in many ways.

Since we need to periodically delete old messages because of limits, and all messages (saved, inbox, sent) are counted as one memory, maybe there's a way to turn off the automatic save function. IMO, it should not be used and left to the PM'r, or PM'ee to deside if it's worth saving. You wouldn't have to delete your memory as many times.

TL,

How much memory is standard on the boards you work on?

I have my vB boards on a dual 1.3Ghz PIII box with SCSI Raid 5 and 4 GB of RAM.

This system is so overkill it's rediculous, but appropriate for my client.

Sorry, but I have no idea what it takes to run a board like Gearslutz with over 1K members.

I got burned twice, I now open a document parallely and paste it back in if it's going to be long. No one has yet answered one of my PMs (boohoo) so I'm not sure if it works.
It's still alot of fun and very helpful.
