Mics: KM 184 & MXL 603

Hi
I wanna get a pair of mics for my Amek DMCL to record guitars, grand pianos etc..

What are the best mics for such use? The Amek delivers a very clean signal, so there might be too "sterile" sound with a pair of Neumann KM 184 (I got that with my TLM 103 which is really close to the borderline ). How about the MXL 603??

Any advice, hints??

Regards
Patrick

Just my $.02, but go with the KM184's. I've used that combo (184->DMCL) quite often and I love it. Dirty it in the mix for the most versatility. Keep it clean going in!

do i have to pick between the two? if not, i would suggest looking at the josephson e22s or even the josephson c42's.

what's the budget?
you've got a pretty big gap between the KM's and the MXL's -

what about ribbons?
schoeps?
B&K / DPA?

I record a Yamaha C5 frequently with a pair of Km184's, they're terrific!

I'll sometimes throw a third mic, an AT4050 either under the piano (towards the back) or out in the room in omni mode.

If the instrument's properly tuned and sounds good, you'll get a good recording.
