came across an old edition of the magazine "audio". one article talks about the amazing lifelike realism of the sonic studios dsm recording microphones. to my surprise they still exist: http://www.sonicstudios.com/ you wear 'em on your spectacles, connect them to a portable recording device and you're good to go. sounds interesting. anybody has any experience with these? self. |

I bought a pair of his high-gain mics with a windscreen headband and one of his modified PCM-M1 Dat recorders back in 1998. I used it for ambient nature recording - birds and insects, wind through the trees, streams and rivers. I was very pleased with the results, especially since the entire rig cost less than $2k. I think of it as the audio equivalent of a point-and-shoot camera; it may not be the absolute highest quality, but you can carry it your pocket and have it ready to use in seconds. I didn't even use headphones to monitor - I just put my head where it sounded right, set my levels, and tried to hold still and breathe quietly.
