Ultimate guide books to recording, mixing and mastering Hi guys!! I went over to recording.org and found a nice section of books over there. Just wanted to see which have you guys read or own that are worthy in gaining any knowledge in the areas of Mixing, Recording techniques, Mastering, and Acoustics. Books you have read and actually made a difference. Thanks!!

"Mastering Audio" by Bob Katz. This is one of those books that I'll read multiple times and get more out of each time - there's a lot of info in here. Some abstract concepts. Also check out Sound on Sound (http://www.soundonsound.com) They've got a wealth of knowledge in their archived (and free) articles. Do a search in the "Technique" section for whatever you're interested in (e.g Compression) and you'll get a bunch of articles returned. More immediately applicable information.

| Lives for gear | "Behind the Glass" - a series of conversations with famous producers about their craft. A lot of non-technical, but very useful information and some technical tips as well. Also, Everett's "Master Handbook of Acoustics" is great (I'm not through it yet) and very deep in theory. -Synth80s |

"Make Mine Music" - Bruce Swedien The first 1/2 is non-technical, but then he gets into very specific detail about how he mics things. What mics he uses, where he puts them, how he tracks - very cool stuff

I'll second Bobby Owsinski's books. I'll also highly, highly recommend Mixing with your Mind . This is a self-published book from Australia (so with shipping it'll cost you approx $80 to get to the USA), but it's got some rich insights--well worth the cost and wait.

I think the best thing any of these books do is get you to experiment on your own a little more - and that is how you really learn anyway.
