Gerry Rafferty Vocal Processing

Hi there....

I heard an old song from Gerry Rafferty the other day called "Right Down The Line", and I was wondering if any slutz here could tell me just what was applied to his voice to give it such a pleasant sound. It's thick like a double track but it sounds too smooth to me to be actually two voices blended.

I feel it's some sort of processer...Eventide? It's similar to his voice in parts of "Baker Street" but in "Right Down The Line", it's throughout the whole song. If anyone here knows his vocal chain...that would be an added bonus, but I'm really interested in the processing...what gear was used and what were the settings.

Thanks in advance,

Henri

Something I have not listened to in about 10 + years but if memory serves me right it probably was double tracked vocals (quite popular in the 70's) - the old Eventides lacked bandwidth back then.

I'm spinning the vinyl right now...

Certainly sounds doubled.

And Aphexy.

Nice, though.

Not as well known as Baker Street, but a nice track.

I read about this in an article a long time ago. If I remember correctly, it was nothing more than double tracking. But Gerry Rafferty supposedly had such good pitch and accurate rephrasing that it lead to what you hear on the tracks.

[Six years later & I've something to say...:-)] A superbly done double-tracked vocal, and very effective L-C-R percussion throughout (starts with the centered cowbell flam on the 1 of every measure). I love that song, and really love Baker Street.
