Thread Starter | Opinions: Apogee Rosetta 200 vs Rosetta 48k AD
I currently have a 48k AD unit ... Apogee WC is sent to RME Digiface which outputs to monitors ... I am considering a converter upgrade (pondering purchase of Great River EQ-2NV etc and arrival of outboard compensation in Nuendo 3) and was hoping to find some answers: 1. will I find a noticeable difference in AD conversion between the two units? ie would this be a lateral or vertical move? 2. are the clocks in both units identical? 3. (the answer seems obvious, but I have to ask) will Apogee 200 DA conversion (relative to RME DA) make a difference in monitoring which can/may/will/could possibly translate into a better mix? Any other color on this comparison would be appreciated. That said, I've seen Mytek and Lavy mentioned quite a bit on these forums ... wasn't sure if there was something else worth a look. Would rather have quality over quantity, 2 channels is probably adequate for what I do. Thanks. Mitch |

HUGE difference. I really did not think that the old Rosetta was all that great. The new apogee converters are very good for the money. A VERY big vertical jump from where you are..... plus some great DA. |

thanks ... I hope this isn't a dumb question, but how much is the converter and how much is the clock ... ie for approx the same price, I can buy a Big Ben to clock my Rosetta AD 48k and RME Multiface I/O ... how would that compare (sound-wise) to the product from a Rosetta 200? Also, if I were to get a better 2-channel AD/DA, my issue would be this: on the DA side, I'd want to use the output for both monitoring and for taking audio OTB for processing (Nuendo 3 on the brain) and then bringing back ITB ... which is the better use of the DA? And would the (better) clock of the Rosetta 200 make a positive difference in the RME converters? Thanks for your help. Mitch |

First question.... the converters are a whole new ballgame. TOTALLY different. As for the DA..... monitoring. Then repatch in a bay for other uses.

thanks for the quick response so the converters in the Rosetta 200 are a new/better ballgame than the AD 48k, so you'd say they will give me better result than (instead) buying a big ben to clock the older Rosetta? |

You can't clock the Rosetta 48 to an external clock in any case. -Duardo |
