Question Dual LCD monitors with Surround Sound Monitors - Placement?

Are any of you running a dual computer monitor setup along with a surround sound monitor (speaker) setup?

If so, how are you arranging things?

I've got two 19" Viewsonic LCD monitors that I have right in front of me on the "meter bridge" of my Argosy console (for O2R96). So, they are spaced right around the center line and butted up against each other.

I have a few pairs of stereo monitors... BM15A, KRK K-Rok (plus sub), and Auratone Cubes, which all work fine for stereo being on the outside of the LCD monitors (some on stands behind the desk).

In the near future I want to upgrade to a surround sound monitoring system, probably the Blue Sky System 1, and am wondering what to do with that center speaker so that's it's not behind my LCD monitors.

Do I suspend the surround sound monitors from the ceiling (which is only 8' 7")?? Or, do I separate the LCD monitors to make room for the center speaker??

I like having the LCD monitors next to each other for that extended desktop thing, but I guess I could separate them as long as they then don't interfere with the left and right speakers.

Moving the LCD monitors back behind the speakers is not an option since I can barely read some of the text now (and I'm not even using the monitors at full resolution or I really couldn't read some of the text).

I'd love to hear what any of you with surround sound are doing?

Thanks!

Steve

I have a Blue Sky System One with dual monitors. I put enough seperation in between the monitors so as not to interfere with the center channel or the left and right. Works pretty well for me. May take a little bit of time to get used to. Typically I am running the DAW in one monitor and a video that I am sync-ing to in the other.

I've seen a lot of surround studios where the monitor blocks the center channel....I guess some people don't worry so much about the center. Not me...

Thanks Darin.

I guess I'll just have to play around with the placement of things until I find something that works... may have to get rid of one of the older sets of monitor speakers to make more room for everything.

The setups I've seen have the monitors way down low near the console and angled up or the speakers are on tall stands angling down to the listening position.

I wish I had a desk system where the monitors could be low and angled up (would be easier on my neck too), but that's not the case right now.

So, I guess the only choices are to spread out the LCD monitors and use my regular stands, or find or build some really tall stands and angle the monitor speakers down.
