Hey, Quick maybe dumb question... Is a half normalized patch bay configuration the same as using a Y cable. I'm having custom cables made for my studio and would like to split the signal between my pre and send it to my AD and to my mixing desk so I can have zero latency monitoring. Seems like I could get a nice Y cord made with Mogami cable and gold connectors. Is that my best bet? Thanks! Lumen

So is a half normalized patch bay wired any different than a Y cord physically? I guess I'm just trying to see if a Y cord would be just as good, if not better than a standard half normailized patch bay for this task?

Djui5, you've got it half-right. In a half normalled patchbay, if you patch into the source (usually the top row), you will get a mult into both the original destination *and* into the patchcord and on to wherever it goes. If you patch into the destination (usually the bottom row) you will break the normal. In a fully normalled bay, patching into either the source or the destination will break the normal. Jeff |
