Any help would be appreciated. I have been reading all of your posts for a while and still can't make up my mind but want to pull the trigger, either I am resolving this and pulling the trigger and going forward or just getting my gun and pulling the trigger because I am going nuts. I am a mainly a guitarist with a lot of analogue experience from the late 70 and 80's. I was a session guitarist, doing mainly commericals to make mony while in college and also played in several bands. Now for the past several years I have been planning to build a personal use recording studio in my home. More on this later. Too make an epic novel, trilogy possibly, short, I was planning to go all anaolgue but have since realized that I will most likely have to become familiar with digital. During this time I have acquired a trident series 24 and a Sony Mxp 3036, Otari Mtr mk II 90. both boards need some work. minor stuff though. I have read all the posts about these boards, and my conclusion is basically as follows: I am not a tech, I am a player, and I simply want to record and not get hung up with maintenance. So based on that the Sony and the otari are going up for sale. I was planning to send the trident channel strips to jim Williams audio to mod to get them to sound better but then I was thinking. What about selling it all and buing a neotek elan. My budget is low 20's for the board when done. I know the series 24 is very low end but it is a 'desK', has VU's and I am very familiar with itsw layout. I am also very comfoortable beind the sony having recorded most of my life on a jh 636 but the stories I read on gearslutz scare me about this board. I thought of a ghost and a toft but I am a brat and want the 24 busses, meters, and console feel. I was told I would love the new API but that is out of my range. I thought of an Elan only because it is new and would have hopefeully new tech and be relatively mantentence free (for a while). I do not want to consider any other options at the moment because I will never get this done and I want to move to the next step. Please give you opps on what I have here. remember, I am a guitarist first, which makes me like an addict. I can pick up six different strats or les pauls, love each one, want to keep each one, as I can feel and hear the differences of each one as each was a beautiful women. So, if I could in my sick mind I would keep everything but I can't and Iwant to proceed in building the studio so I have to get past this issue first. Thanks to all that respond. ![]()

| from the first few sentences/lines.. I thought you were actually going to knock yourself off/kill yourself.. If you do decide to do it.. Don't use a gun.. I would use paragraphs.. Much less mess..

Very brief as not to offend, I made my decision and purchased a Neotek Elan 2. I thank Danny Mac for offeing advice, answering the question and not crying over its length, and I thank Mike at Sytek who was extremely helpful and was willing to customize the console for my needs. ![]()

i just ordered it, signed the paperwork and gave mike a 50% deposit. he told me to expect in January at the latest. In the meantime he is sending me the templates f the board so I can have a prducer's desk - side table made. I am of curse anxious as i am replacing an old trident series 24. Almost bought a sony but after reading the blogs and getting emails frm some members, i felt the sony might have been a risky investment. thanks, for asking, john

Forgot to mention, I ordered a 36 input elan 2, but I requested that the 36 inputs be all on one side instead of split like in the website pics, and I also requested the patch bay be on the right side not the left. These are old preferences frm when I used to use a 636.
