| second "bass" mic recomendations. Hey, I am using a D112 for kick drum and usually an AT4050 for bass cab. I'm thinking of picking up a beta 52 for mainly kick, which would free up the D112 for bass cab micing. I think the d112 is great for cabs if your after a bit of grunt from the speakers. I did have an audix d6 before someone stole it at a show. that was alright but too 'tuned towards metal/rock. a beta 91 isn't versatile enough and an RE20 is a little out of my price range. Can anybody recommend any alternative mics to take a look at? |

| Gear nut | SM7B, MD421, ATM25, D112, Heil PR40 are all great options, but the best is depending on which style of music you're recording and even what kind of kick drum you're using. (type of wood, size, head selection, tuning, beater type etc..)

| I´m also looking for another bass mic, to be able to get a good recording of kick and bass amp at the same time. I´ve got a D112 so when overdubbing bass I look for the sweet spot with that and then put a sm57 next to it (to avoid phase problems) and mix D112 for low bass and 57 for mid. |

| ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Except when you do a jazz record..... I dislike the "pre-eq"ed mic sound and this is one of the most scooped out mics i've ever heard. Sure in SOME cases it is the PERFECT microphone (in some genre's more than others), but more often than not I get better results using something like a PR40 or RE20 and then using my nice EQ's on it on the way in.

never heard the Heil, but it is also supposed to 'resemble' the RE20 in more than just appearance

| The most expensive studio in our town, which does tons of jazz for labels, uses a D6 on the kick drum. I was surprised when I found this out also, but it's true! To the original poster: grab a Heil PR40 and rock on with that bass cab...perfect bass cab mic! War
