Altiverb

There are so many IR's that can make anyone go "ohh! that sounds so cool!" But what are some that you guys actually use. The ones that make it on albums.

I find cello rooms to be one of the more usealble patchs.

What do you all think?

None .... I cannot understand the whole hype round Altiverb. Maybe it's the pictures, I expect too much when I see a picture of the concertgebouw in Amsterdam. And maybe when I use it I want it to sound like that (fwiw I've been there loads of times and know how it sounds) ... but it doesn't. Ok, there's some IR's that are cool but for the most part ... uhm .... they sound like a alesis quadraverb or something like that. I don't want to start a riot here and please someone explain to me how they use it ... I've been telling myself over and over that I must be missing something with it because so many people out here seem to drool over it.

Outboard still completely rules my reverb world but pluginwise something like Reverb One or Revibe simply is more convincing to me.

imvho that is

I'm a recent Altiverb user.
Since I got Altiverb, I didn't have the chance to produce any ballad, etheric or classical stuff... so I didn't had the chance to play with the big theathers impulses to check how they fit in a mix.

So far, besides the Studio's Impulses (very cool to emulate distant room mics on drums) I found use ironicly for some Hardware impulses, like the EMT plate in main vocals.
There's a Medium Hall preset in a PCM80 Impulse (i found over the net) wich I liked.

I know Altiverb may be distant from a 960L or 480L, but for a 400 $ plug in, it does a well job for the ones who can't affoard a 960 (like me)

I can't wait to try the TL Space plug in on my PT HD rig... A hell of more controls!

haven't used Altiverb a lot, but its plate impulses are good and I used them. Speaking of convolution reverb in general I compared some M3000 impulses that come with Samplitude to the real thing and they sounded identical.

best

My experience with Altiverb is that I like sampled hardware reverbs better than sampled spaces. And that's how I use it. I like the sampled 960L and TC6000. Offcourse they are not the same as the real thing. I compared Altiverb to the TC, it wasn't the same but there was definately the same sort of color in the presets which were sampled.

I think I like sampled boxes better because an impulse created in a real room is also determined bij the quality of the speaker system and most important the mic to capture it.

Digital harware boxes are offcourse much easier to sample, but I always feel it sounds much smoother. But then again not every sound is asking for a smooth reverb. I think it does quite a good job creating a more distant or room mic sound.

ive found the emt 250 digital patch to be pretty useful on more things than a lot of the other patches.

its not one of the stock ones. if anyone hasnt yet, there are a bunch available here http://altiverb.daw-mac.com/.

Sheez, I can't imagine not finding a few good uses for Altiverb...

Try:

EMT 250 Plate: 120ms predelay one is nice on vocals (I back off the decay a bit usually)

Cello Studios (the smaller room) is awesome for ambience

Putnam Echo Chambers (I use the third one the most)

i second the putnam chambers also. i often use those instead of built in guitar reverbs on amps.
