More speaker questions...

Hi,

A brief history: After many years of spending far too much $$$'s on hi-fi I have over the last 12 months ditched it all in favor a Mac/DAC1. I am now in a position to buy a pair of active speakers.

I previously posted asking for speaker suggestions at around 6k. I got lots of advice and recommendations. I have had a number of those recommendations on home demo.

In particular ACT SCM50 and PMC AML1. I liked the ACT for its transparency, but in my room which is 18ft long x 13ft wide x 8ft high (with room treatments) and I sit about 10ft away from the speakers - I couldn't get much 'real' bottom end bass from the ACT's. The PMC AML1s were a different speaker all together... a more relaxed sound with a little better bass that I was suprised given the size of the speaker/drivers, but I guess its the transmission line working, but they had amazing 'boogy' factor!

Many of you recommended K&H but I just cannot get a home demo, but my real problem is I have read all the rave reviews of the Barefoot and I really like the idea of this speakers. However, I would have to buy without hearing the speaker as I'm in the UK.

So, sould I just go ahead and buy the Barefoot and through all caution to the wind? Any thoughts?

Monty

Of course, man.. throw caution to the winds!
It gives us life. To hell with caution..

The only practical advice I could add would be that Barefoots are on the rise, they are getting a growing reputation. If you don't like them, then you should be able to painlessly sell them on and not end up out of pocket.

Don't dismiss K&H in your quest for bass extension, BTW. I have a pair of 0300 and really appreciate how much lower they go than the ATC SCM 50 you mentioned. They are just as revealing in the mids as the ATC.

How come you can't audition K&H? They are being handled by Sennheiser, who are quite ubiquitous.

Damn your right - life is too short to get stressed over this

Just for info I wanted to try a pair of k&h 0300, 0800 sub and pro c28 on home demo but Sennheiser has not got back to me for whatever reason.

Thanks,

Monty
