OK Let's see .......

Waves platinum would be a good start.

URS has some great plugs. Waves SSL or API will work too.

There are some FREE!!! au plugins you can pick up as well .... do a goggle search for the massey au tape saturation. Also try a search on the fishfillets free plugs ....... ie blockfish etc.

Then there's universal Audio ...... but you've got to get the pci card.

Most plugs allow you to download a trial so you can check em out. That's the best way to choose what's right for your next purchase. As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to trial some of the Trtone Digital stuff that some slutz have been talking about ....... we'll see how it holds up.

The logic plugs are getting better too.

Autotune, ez drummer, bfd (I know .... "the dark side")

Do you need softsynths too?

Again, waves platinum has a some great eq's , comps and limiters.

Try them, then decide.

I went the SSL Duende route for this and I am very pleased. By far the best sounding plug ins I have ever heard. A Duende can also process up to 32 mono tracks so it doesn't tie you down so much.

I also have UAD but I am not using it as much since its card can't process more than a few (very few) instances of the plug ins. If you don't mind this problem, and you are willing to give UAD all your precious PCIe slots, or willing to buy a magma expansion for the price of a MAC PRO, you can buy many cards and I am sure you will be pleased with their brilliant plug ins, its just not the smartest investment given the options.

I never used sonnox, but my friends who use their plug ins are very pleased, and they are native!!! You might want to check them out.

Are you using Logic Pro 8?

The new compressors and EQs in Logic are not bad.
I know some folks in Berlin they never thought of buying external Plugs and they make great mixes!!!

If I could start with logic 8 again I only would buy one bundle of the SONNOX thing and the rest would be fine for me. I would have been saving much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So the luck with logic is that you have everything on board to do professional sound.

On my 8 core MP 32 tracks of SSL would be tying me down.

Love the SSL bundle, API bundle, Sonnox Limiter and EQ are awesome as wellthumbsup

Whats your budget? You could spend $30,000 on all the plugs of the companies mentioned above.

I think value-wise, the PSP plugins are good quality and reasonable prices. Zebra and Imposcar are fairly economical soft synths. Fabfilter has some reasonable adn good effects and synths. Autotune was on sale recently - i think $199 at audiomidi.com, but I am not sure its that much better than Logic's pitch correciton.

I like Soundtoys but not cheap. I also like UAudio (board with plugs). There is also the Powercore card but I have not tried it.

As for drums, there is Battery 3, Addictive Drums, and Stylus (each a bit different), and others. You might consider the NI Komplete kit if yoiu want a lot of softsynths - however, I am not using them much anymore because the interface is slow and messed up, and every new version of the synths means you lose any patches used on the older versions.

I would stay clear of Waves - very expensive, very hard to install, they apparently never update their plugins to sound better or be more efficient, you can' transfer your licenses off of your ilok if you ever want to sell them, and they have their expensive WUP program where you have to keep paying for the same plugs over and over.

Waves WUP is the main reason why do not buy it again.
