Thread Starter | ACID 5.0 Anyone used this yet ???
I saw the demo of Acid 5.0 at AES and wanted to give it a try. Someone on another forum posted that it had so many bugs that they went back to 4.0. That's why I would like to hear from another user before I decide to update or not.

I just got the upgrade late last week, and was away for the weekend. I installed it along side ACID 4 so I can still use that if needed. In my very brief playing around with ACID 5, I didn't encounter any show stopping bugs ... I had it rewired into Nuendo, which was a bit tricky to figure out how to get working at first. I first had ACID 5 set up to use ASIO soundcard drivers, but when I would try to launch it as a rewire client in Nuendo, it would crash both it and Nuendo. I basically figured out I needed to set ACID to the windows sound card driver first, and then it would load up just fine in Nuendo... just have to remember to switch back to ASIO drivers when working with just ACID 5. There seems to be one new method for stretching loops in the loop properties window now, and they say that the time streching sounds better in this version as well, although I haven't done any testing on it yet. I kind of got away from using ACID for a while, other than editing ACID properties for the Performance Loops series of products I produce for Big Fish Audio. But, now that it works as a rewire client in Nuendo, I'll probably use it much more... at least until Nuendo 3 comes out and I can see how well their new loop/warp features work in it. Steve

As an update to my post, I spent most of the day Monday working on a new song using Nuendo with ACID rewired. Wasn't doing anything too fancy in ACID, but had maybe 20 tracks of loops going, some with manual pitch shifting. There were a few key changes and some volume and pan automation, but that's about it for ACID... all the tracks going out through stereo master for now while in the composing phase. In Nuendo, I had one MIDI track driving an external synth, and 3 other MIDI tracks driving VST instruments. Many times I would get a little audio glitch when I first started playback... not a big deal. Then, once in a while, I would get an audio glitch during playback for a brief second. Again, not a huge deal for composing purposes, and everything stayed in sync with no problems. My latency was set pretty low (6ms), and increasing that seemed to make the glitches happen less often, but I would still get them once in a while. Other than those glitches, I didn't encounter any bugs that caused any kind of crash, but I wasn't doing anything too complex. Steve |
