Patriotic instrumentals?

Does anyone know of some cool patriotic instrumentals done in the styles of rock or electronic music?

I already know about Hendrix of course .

Looking for some cool stuff, but not sure what's out there.

Even if it's not in the genres I mentioned, tell me about it if it's cool or different.

Thanks!

Woody Guthrie

THIS LAND

with FULL lyrics!

This Land Is Your Land

This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

I recorded a delightfully demented version of "God Save The King" for The Song Of America with John Wesley Harding backed by a brass ensemble and drums. Song of America is a brilliant 3 CD set of American history told through song. Some of the versions are faithful, some less so.

Have you heard Liberty by Steve Vai?

(Sorry, can't post the obligatory you tube link here at work)

Oh, instrumentals. Sorry. Song of America does have an absolutely insane ukulele player doing a stunning version of "Stars and Stripes Forever".

And if it sounds like I'm pimping Song of America, it's because I am.

One, it was made by a good pal and two, it's really wonderful. Great Fourth of July present.

"American Idiot" by Green Day. That song is as patriotic as apple pie and the pre-emptive strikes that enforced democracy and freedom for all. Yeehaaaw!!

Patriotism is just wrong. It's a madness that is stirred up by those who wish to send somebody else's sons & daughters into battle. And for what? To benefit who?

Patriotism is not Win/Win thinking. It is short-sighted Win/Lose thinking. It is greed and stupidity disguised as something good and noble.

Just play "The Last Post" on a bugle - that's the ultimate Patriotic tune, for the ultimate end to this madness.

EDIT I'm showing my ignorance here. Apparantly that's the British military funeral bugle tune. The American one is apparantly called "Taps".

As you were, soldiers.

There is a rare studio recording of Star Spangled via 16 track on the Hendrix box set, it's very good, not at all like the live versions.

Happy Independance Day.

Thanks for the posts. I knew this one would catch some heat and that's cool.

IMHO, the very fact that we have the freedom to slam the country we live in is actually something to be proud of and thanful for.

For me personaly, it's sad to read those negative remarks about patriotism. Sure, our country gets things wrong. I doubt it's an easy job to make these decisions. People are people, even our leaders. People are flawed and may miss the mark, or even have wrong motives. But that does not take away from the principles our country was founded on and the freedom we still have today. I would not want to live anywhere else.

Throughout history, so many men and women have died to portect us and others on this planet. That is nobel and worthy of respect, honor and gratitude.

It's my opinion that they did not die in vain. Today, I celebrate them and the men and women who protect us today. I celebrate our independance and freedom.

I'm still very proud that the United States is my home.

all and all the best country in the world..every country has "issues" we might have gotten a little off track lately ..but having almost 3000 people die in a suicide plane attack can do that
..etc etc
from early 1960's to now ..civil rights, womens right, ethnic and religious tolereance have made Giant strides here..no country is perfect...most amercans strive for goodness..you see how common people dig in their pockets for disaster relief all over the world

HAPPY 4th!

Most Americans are selfish, ignorant, and closed-minded. Over half of the American public thought Saddam Hussien was responsible for 9-11, and they voted in the worst president in history for a second term because he was their choice for a beer drinking buddy. One in five American kids goes to school hungry, and yet the American public are loathe to fund school breakfasts, and they certainly don't want to pay for state-sponsored childcare for working mothers (who will be getting paid 20% - 30% less than their male counterparts.) This doesn't sound like striving for goodness to me...

Back to the OP

1812 overture
The Marches of John Phillip Sousa
Theme from the Olympics
We Shall Overcome (hip hop instrumental - how hard could it be to throw that together? We need this song to remind people that the struggles of the 60's are not over - it's a day-to-day struggle to treat everyone with respect when the norms of society dictate otherwise.)

A little off-the-wall, but I always thought the music of Chuck Mangione, flugelhorn player from the late 70's - early 80's sounded patriotic, probably because the horn is reminiscent of the army bugle, and a lot of his music is uplifting (thankfully, in a non-Sousa type of way.)

Here's where I have a real problem. The current administration is never the country. A set of policies is never the country. I slam Bush because I love my country.
I would suggest that rather than just waving a flag or chanting a slogan, we all celebrate the Fourth of July by reading The Declaration of Independence. That's what we celebrate today.

Has nothing to do with America. A Patriot loves his or her country, which can be any country. Also, "instrumental" means, no singing.

IMO, Patriotism is a slightly higher level of self centred-ness that can be exploited by those in positions of power.

As infants, we think the world revolves around Self. Nothing but our own needs and wants matter - we want everything NOW, and never have a thought about what that is costing anyone else. Give a baby a gun, and if they could pull the trigger, they would probably shoot you.

As we grow up, we come to think that Family is all important. Most TV sitcoms preach this philosophy, because it appeals to simple minds. We don't mind hurting other people, as long as our Family is safe & protected. Taken to it's logical conclusion, you get Mafia families and family owned enterprises that look after their own family first, and treat everyone else like shit. This is slightly higher up the evolutionary scale - it's not completely self-centred, but it only includes one's family into the whole self-focused universe paradigm.

For some people, the lack of family makes them vulnerable to gangs and cults and other small circles of friends that give them security. But loyalty to a gang or cult can be seriously misguided. The concept of sticking together to defend oneself from others, or to prey upon others, is still self-serving win/lose behaviour.

Patriotism, Nationism, or loyalty to a country is just one step to being in a big gang. The whole concept is flawed. "Us" against "Them". Screw the "others" - we will look after ourselves first, and if necessary we will kill the others. We can even make it sound noble, moral, decent if we can convince ourselves that the "others" want to kill us first.

Look at the scumbags who rule this planet. They have ZERO loyalty to their country. Bush is far more loyal to his Saudi Arabian backers than to Americans. Big corporations have ZERO loyalty to countries. They will set up a factory wherever the labour is cheap.

Patriotism is a ploy - a means whereby the ruling elite, who's loyalties lie elsewhere, can deceive and manimpulate the common people into doing their will.

War is a rich mans game. If you own oil wealth, or contracting companies, the financial windfall that comes from starting a war is immense. Of course, you don't send your own children to fight. That would be stupid. Instead, you stir up the poor disposable people in your country with stirring music and eloquent lies.

Works like a charm.

Excuse me while I puke.
