Question best mix buss comp for 2k or less

any suggestions? right now I have two distressors, rnc, fatso, hedd, and chandler tg1 -- none of these seem appropriate on the mix buss. I want something light, transparent, to bring everything together gently, with a nice solid low end and present vocals... with my budget I'll have to keep my options limited around 2k, preferably less! I'm looking at the buzz audio soc-1.1 but I'm not sure if it's transparent enough. any suggestions will be researched! thanks

When I read the thread title I opened it up to post -check out the Buzz Audio compressor...

But I see you already have!

OK - thats my vote anyway...

Chris Lambrechts (High End moderator here) has one and he loves it...

I may be on crack but,

My vote would be for a used Summit DCL-200.

About a month ago I put it across my buss and it has been there since. The only other stereo comps I have to compare are the SSL,Elop, and daking. They are all more colored to me.

The Summit can really put the squash on something and I do feel I am losing anything.

I think cdog has one fresh from Summit service for sale.

That is anothr point.....smoking support!!!

I have to say that I'm absolutely loving the Drawmer 1968... but I'm kinda biased...

for the budget i would go with the drawmer 1968, otherwise the pendulum es-8 is my current fav (although i would still like to get a 1968 someday).

For a few more hundreds you can get an Alan Smart C2 - verry good sound, yet transparent. My vote.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can put together one of the ssl clones and spend the extra $1600+ another box. They're not entirely transparent, but certainly useable on the 2-bus.

Yes, I want one too! I've used both the STC-8 and the FATSO, and neither seemed to really "glue" the mix for me. I'm hoping the Drawmer will be the ticket, on some material anyway.

The Buzz Audio SOC1.1 has stayed as my mix compressor for the last 4 albums i've mixed! Highly recommended.

The Drawmer 1969 has stayed as my drum bus compressor too

On one hand, I can certainly sympathize with the approach of "Hey, I can't hear any difference, so why should I pay that much?". On the other, I wonder why anyone who can't hear a difference is recording, mixing, or producing records.

i liked the buzz on the 2buss at first but then found out i liked it better elsewhere and ended up not liking it on the 2buss than without it... so. i dont have any recommendations otherwise as its a pretty personal thing.

I should really try out the buzz before I commit. I've used the drawmer 1969 on 2buss and loved it. but it's got a big thick color. I'm mixing to 1/4" so, to contradict myself, 'glue' isn't really a priority at this stage. clarity, grabbing transients, raising the average level IS. the cranesong stc-8 is looking mighty nice. also the pendulum and the alan smart. however I'm still not sure what to get at this point. thanks for all the suggestions.
