Neumann U87ai, nobrainer for those applications.

Kinda have to agree with the U87 recommendation. C12s are out of your budget, but would be nice... I'm assuming that you have a half-decent preamp to run a half-decent mic through.

InnerTUBE Mag Mic MM2006 MT Gefell UM70s AEA R84 Royer 122 Telefunken M16 MK2 Brauner Phanthera These are just some blind suggestions based on price [and my love for microphones].........it really depends on what you're going for, texturally, along with your instrument, voice and of course the room, the recording medium and the rest of you're equipment. The idea is to fit the microphone to your tone, style and performance, so it captures the space of your performance the "best" way possible. "Best" is different for all of us, so I find things often get straight to the point when you start talking about the music.

A sleeper in its price range is the Oktava MK-105 but sorry, it's way under budget. War |

stay away from the ai. The shure ksm and those cheapo AT mics sound better. I recently did a test and was shocked to find out how bad the ai is. The 103's sound better For brand new I would go with a Korby FET, a Gefell or someother solid-state u47 clone. Despite some others advice I wouldn't use a ribbon mic on acoustic and certainly not vocals | |
