More RMG woes

started a session on a new roll of RMGI 900 tape......it started leaving light residue all along the tape path.....this residue build up has gotten progressively worse over time......one play through leaves an unbelievable amount of gunk......but there is no audible deterioration in the recorded material........have already done a digital transfer as a safety.......should i keep using this tape until i notice a loss in fidelity?.........anyone else been in this situation?....i feel like i am racing against time here....how much life is left in this crap roll?......

Contact RMG. By all means do a backup now!

The bad ones we had deteriorated quite quickly leaving residues that took me ages to clean off the decks.

This was common with earlier batches of tape. I spoke with a rep at AES New York and they said that it was remedied. Though do contact them as they will replace your tape at no cost to you.

Don Morris should be the rep for your side of Canada.

wasted a whole day yesterday because of an rmg 900 2" reel. as we were listening back to takes, the producer noticed that the vocal track was getting darker by the pass. i unspooled the tape and was horrified at what i saw. i thought rmg fixed this problem. this reel is from a new batch. so unacceptable... if you can't make the stuff properly, then don't f*cking make it, and waste peoples time and money. what an embarassing situation that was.

That's terrible. I've been using RMG 911 and haven't had a problem since. I hate reading about stuff like this though. As if people who are caring to use tape need more hassle.

God, how embarrassing after I'm sure the talk about how cool tape is must've come up before hand to convince them to use it. Hopefully it was the artist's idea.

There's just some things you can't refund without serious bonus. But who wants a bonus on a product that doesn't work?

I wonder if it's primarily with the 900 series?
