What Mic to buy for this singer? Advice Please

Hi all,

Im looking to buy a mic for about 1200 - 1500 dollars for this singer

MySpace

these tracks were mainly done with an AT4033a into a SPL goldmic and im not too happy with the results.

Im looking for a really big airy open but yet still warm vocal sound.
Unfortunatly i have no local dealers as im in ireland but can anyone make any recommendations based on say a similar singer they have recorded or by listening to these tracks.

I was thinking a peluso 22 251 myself but thats just on what i have read!

any help greatly appreaciated.

the ADK area 51 is one of the most consitsantly good and forgiving mics i have ever used on vocals..it seems to work well with everyone..once you eq it to taste

SM7b? There's something weird going on with the S's that might sound better with a SM7b. Plus, the guy's voice sounds a little thin on the 4033. (I listened to 'them old country songs')

Thanks guys,

The SM7b was actually very high up the list and i might actually be a bles to test this mic with the singer, Im not sure what pre to use with it but ill look it up a bit more.

Yes, them old country songs was recorded with th AT4033a and it does give a very thin sound, I would be looking for the complete oppisite of that sound! Larger, warmer and more in your face

I noticed on the highway men dvd that johnny cash and all of them i think were using the SM7b, anyone know what pres these would be going through?
