Anyone here use a Presonus Faderport?

I'm thinking of picking one up. Pros? Cons? What should I know?

I have one, and I loved it when I was able to use it. I switched from an MBOX2 LE setup to a M-audio Delta 44 running M-powered(does projects at a higher sample rate) and for some reason when I go to the setup>peripherals it gives me the option of adding an HUI device, but there is no output being sent anywhere, where as before it was being sent to the Mbox. Anybody know the problem?

As for the OP, I think they're a great little device, definitely makes your DAW a little more tactile, and it's a lot cheaper than buying a ProjectMix, Command8, Digi003 console, etc...

The fader is nice and smooth as well. It definitely helps you add more personality and feel to your mixes when using it for automation.

I have one too...

Was a total hit while making this last record & working on the various band members DAW's... DP, Sonar & Cubase. All of 'em I could mostly just plug it in & go with little hassle... It did seem to slow down the one PC running Cubase & get slightly wonky, but the machine was already being taxed & it was like the LE or SE... the cheap version which they say isn't supported under HUI. But, it DID work!

On my DAW with Nuendo though... for some reason I haven't been able to install it. The USB connection sees new hardware but it won't recognize or install & so far I've been too lazy to figure it out even though it's been here for a few years. I use a Tascam fader pack with that so it's really not a big deal... it works for what I bought it for.

I haven't used it with the AC power... just USB power. All was well...

I've got one... it is very helpful for writing automation.

Pros: it's a fader
Cons: it's not 24 faders...

I'll upgrade in a couple years... :(

I also own one and I really really like it.
I run it on a 002 rack PT LE 7.4
I would certainly preffer to have a few more faders but for now it does the job.
Got to your local gear store and try it out, you'll then be able to tell if is worth the investment or not

I've got one. Really nice little piece. It cannot be used to automate an effects send which I find quite limiting. It would be nice if someone put the best features of the faderport and alphatrack together.

I tried Faderport and Alphatrack. For some reason I couldn't like the Alphatrack although I wanted to. THe Faderport fits me better. I like it alot. Once you get used to using the mouse and Faderport in combination, it rocks.

Get one.

I have one and used it for a few years. It was cool to do subtle things with rides in automation Really natural to use. I just disconnected it about three weeks ago and got the Euphonix MC Control. Its in a box now. I enjoyed it.

I love my faderport when it's working, but it's been very buggy. Last time I checked, there were no Vista specific drivers, so I'm thinking that's my problem...it often loses communication in the middle of fader rides and then is useless until a reboot.

Bigwig...it doesn't make sense that the hui would be sent to the mbox or the delta....the inputs and outputs should both be the faderport...if it's not an option in the pulldown menu, I'd just try reinstalling the newest drivers they have on the presonus site

It works really well for me. In Samplitude 10, it's possible to control aux sends or any automatable parameter with the fader.

Well, I grabbed a Faderport today and installed it just now (easiest installation ever). After playing around with it for a bit, I definitely think this will improve my recording experience. Less mouse clicks, more hands on stuff.

It will probably take some time to really get used to, but I will spend my next two or three sessions focusing on trying to use it as exclusively as possible to work it into my habits. I think after that, it'll be hard to mix without it.

I look forward to getting good at riding the fader, which is a skill I never thought I'd be able to develop.

I ordered a Faderport online yesterday, should be here tomorrow. I mix OTB but do a little automation in the DAW. I hate drawing it in with a mouse, I'm hoping it will make my life a lot easier for the few rides I do here and there.

Will post back when I get a chance to use it.
