I have a few clips I can share if you like:

I'm not a singer but belted out a line just to make a clip at the time. Overall I'd say it's going to depend on your taste. Typically you would NOT have any sibilance issues with this mic which is a nice benefit. It does have a big proximity boost which you would likely have to roll off on male vocals.

That acoustic guitar clip by the way is a $250 Yamaha FG413S, a decent bang for the buck guit-fiddle that I bought for just in case purposes. Not a bad clip methinks.

Hope this helps

Over the last year or so I have found myself gravitating more towards using an R84 on female vocals-almost exclusively. I find that it works very well on tenors. It aids in smoothing some of the shrillness associated with vocalists who operate within this range.

I had really unbelievable results with the AEA 44c on female vocal. I did some tracks with an Norah Jones style singer and used the 44c on the lead and on the backings.
Fantastic, really smooth, no harsh "s".

But it's definatly a colour. You need to built the vibe of the song around that.

I haven't tried our R84s or Royers on lead vocals, so I cant commment that. But I used 2 R84s at Blumlein on backing choirs and worked perfect. Pretty dense and naturel.

Totally agree with this. The R84 is a great soprano mic. If you need more high-end, you can can eq to taste without it getting brittle on top.

Just a beautiful sound on the right voice.

You are correct Kevin, it seems almost imperveous to any adverse artifacts attributed with dramatic EQing.

The R84 was the perfect mic for a recent OD session which involved tracking some female falsetto parts. I really love this mic.
