mackie onyx + digi002 rack

i've just seen the mackie onyx1620 analog mixer, and it has firewire, is it possible to conect it with my digi002 so i can record 8 tracks through the onyx straight into protools....

i'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but i'm not that familiar with firewire and it's possibilities, and i'm just starting with audio....

No, unless the build in convertor of the Mackie has an ADAT out, which you can connect to your 002R. Otherwise: just go analog out of the mixer into the analog inputs of 002R.

mackie just released a product called the onyx 800r. This has 8 channels and has ADAT so you can basically add 8 more channels to your digi002 via lightpipe. This is a great unit because it has the 192khz digital outs.

About any small digital mixer would have this. Yamaha 01V or Tascam DM-24 for example.

I understand Onyx has its own recording software - you record it to you Mac, then use PT to work with it for mixing. I've thought seriously about that, but it would be more practical to have Alesis HD24 for the same functionality - since I already have live mixers and preamps...
