| Management for engineers/producers I'm curious - How many of you guys have managers? At what point did you get a manager, and what duties do they perform? How much do you pay them? thanks! |

| I have a guy who helps get me gigs, but he's not really a "manager" unless he has gotten the gig and acts as the middleman. He owns a label I do a lot of work for, and for the non-label stuff he has gotten me, he gets 20% of my full mix rate, and 15% if he cuts deals. He gets 10% of the tracking and pre-production. It is worth it to me for gigs that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Likewise, if I get handed a client from one of the studios that I work in, and I end up mixing in my own studio, I cut them 20% of what I get paid to mix so that they don't feel like I'm stealing clients. It keeps them happy, and helps me not fear the busted kneecap syndrome.
