Gwen Vox ! ?

Hey gang -
I pulled out No Doubt's "Rock Steady" CD the other day after not listening to it for a while, and dammit, those voxes just sound great. So my question is a two-parter:

1) Who engineered/recorded the vocals for "Hey Baby"?

2) What was the Mic/single chain?

I know a huge part of the sound is the vocalist, but damn, those vocals sound good.

THANX for info
jeffrey

yup,, nice

Gwen , and the whole band sound great on rock steady.

I think a lot has to do with spike stent. He mixed it.

And the fact that they are a band who can play, sing, and write well.
My favs are "start the fire" and "underneth it all"

Man, those are nice mixes.

here's an old article on Spike:

This is contrary to the spirit of his rule of "go for feel and don't watch the red lights."

Nevertheless, this interview is six years old but still very interesting.

Makes you wonder what he's doing now.

King Ugly nailed it.. the C12 didn't work when it got down to Jamaica..So a U87 was used.....as far as the sound... Gwen has alot to do with that.

Everyone loves to slag on the U87 for some reason. This album proves again that the not so slutty U87 in capable hands can yield top results. So anyone working somewhere and groaning "ah man, the best they had was a U87" can look elsewhere for faults.

Everything I have heard from Spike Stent has always impressed me... Bjork, Madonna, No Doubt...

Another great sounding album that he mixed that not many people have heard is Re-Animations from Linkin Park, it's the remixes from the first album and it sounds HUGE...
