leaving mics out of cases?

Is it ok to leave my mics out on their stands? I didn't know if humidity or anything could possibly damage them or is it just good practice to put them back in their case/pouch?

**Found my answers!**

I always put mics away as soon as they are finished with...
I know studios that have had mics go missing, as well as the problems with stands being knocked over etc...
If you run a commercial studio its good practise to pop them in a lockable cupboard when not in use.

I personally like to leave them all on stands, it makes it quick and easy to set things up. But a couple of times a stand has been knocked over, causing slight damage to a bit of wire grille..
If you live in a really humid climate, storing them (esp. condensers) with moisture absorbing things

I think I read on the Klaus Hynes mic forum that leaving them out on stands covered with a plastic bag is fine, as long as the bag is open at the bottom so the mic can breathe. I think I also read that when a tube mic is shut off, that's the time when it's trying its hardest to collect dust particles, so I cover it as soon as I turn it off.

Keeping them in a case is fine, as long as the foam in the case isn't shedding, which foam does when it gets old. Keeping them in a cloth bag could also be bad, since cloth catches lint, and lint gets sucked onto the diaphram by magnetism.

i usually keep my mics on their stands... but i move the stands to a corner, and put mic bags (soft cases) on top of them, mostly zipped up...

best of both worlds?
