What was jonny greenwood playing?

i saw radiohead last night in victoria park.....i stood right next to the sound tent......it was a great show - sounded beautiful and they were having a great time which helped the already good vibes.....i am just wondering what jonny greenwood is playing when he does those 'string'-lines in a few songs - he seems to be using a key-boardy-thing with a horizontal slider that he uses to intonate and do some vibrato with???.....i couldn't really see much more than that but it sounded great....i'm sure some slutz'll know what it is.

cheers

check him playing it here - pretty cool.

YouTube - Thom yorke - cymbal rush (Henry Rollins)

It's a remake of an old keyboard which only a few were ever made -
i'm having a memory lapse to the name.

The original instrument was called an Ondes Martenot. Greenwood had someone build a synth controller based on the Martenot. Sort of like controlling your modular synth with a theremin.

I know he uses an Analogue Systems modular, and I believe that his controller is the French Connection also made by Analogue Systems. It has a standard keyboard in addition to the ondes martenot-style sliding ring. You can order one from them here:
