| Controler or Console So some folks of you know that I am about to buy a console.... my last Studer thread hope someone can remember....about this I have found limited information at the GS-search function. The only thing I am afraid of is that I wll lose my total recall and have to do pictures of the mixing desk.... wuhhhhhhhhh. So I know controllers will not change my Sound but maybe my workflow. What do you think .... are you faster mixing with a controller??? Are there controllers outside which handle all the Plug Ins as well???? I see one big Problem with a desk... I have the desk and the Computer... the Studer is not having compression as outboard I only have two compressors the rest will be Plug Ins....so I have the mouse and the Desk and then the battle will start. I see my self ending up using the mouse only again and the nice console is just for show biz.... ![]()

| There is no battle at all. the overwhelming majority of we console guys incorporate plug ins into out mixes. I do not use many plugs but sometimes the plug in is right tool for the job. The best thing about working in a hybrid set up is that you can use the best of both worlds.

Because I charge for my time I just tell bands... "I can mix it on the desk and it will take twice as long, and I have to charge for 2 or more recalls per song. Or I can just do it in Pro Tools and voila." I really used to only mix on a desk, but I've been doing all these really complicated pop/rock mixes with a million tracks and the desk isn't worth the frustration anymore. I can still use all my outboard gear, and the desk is just for bling! hope that helps, Creston

| I think the D Commands are a really nice solution. When you pu them in an Argosy Desk they give you the "bling". And you've got total control over everything in PT. For a mixing session I might prefer an actual console, but for a tracking/ production situation, I'd much prefer a D Command and some nice outboard. |
