Will I hear a difference.....

Will I hear a substantial difference by trading in my Delta 1010 for a RME HDSP 9632?

Not unless you plan to buy some convertors as well. Otherwise you'll hear nothing.

The HDSP 9632 is just an ADAT/MIDI/SPDIF interface card - it'll require additional hardware for you to get sound in and out of your computer.

For example, an Apogee Rosetta 800 or similar. THEN you will hear a difference.

Cheers,
Rich

Hi RichT,

Thanks for your post but from what I've read about that card, it seems to have its own converters. Am I misunderstanding something? Perhaps you're confusing it with the 9652.

From what I understand, the 9632 is a scaled DOWN version of the 9652...offering 16 channels of ADAT i/o and SPDIF / WC but I could be wrong. Anyway, I have the 9652 and no onboard conversion to be found on it either! I think the DSP9652 has some unbalanced i/o (2 channels?).

Warhead,

I believe you're referring to the 9636, not the HDSP9632 that I was asking about.

Ahhhhh damn product code numbers, only 4 digits difference but totally different products.

This is the card runamuck is looking at:

http://www.rme-audio.com/english/hdsp/hdsp9632.htm

And it does feature converters.

As to it's sound? No idea.

The benefits I see to going with this card are:

1 - It's huge potential for expansion - you could start off with a smallish rig and add I/O at a later date if you needed it.

2 - RME products on the PC are rock solid and their driver support is great.

Hope this helped in some way.

Cheers,
Rich

Delta 1010

Hey,
I have a delta 1010. I just went through this same thing. I tried clocking it with an ext wordclock, but it still didn't do it for me. I bought the Lucid A/D/A 9624 and have been satisfied with it. The tracking is clearer and listening to my mixes are more revealing. Buying a stereo converter is a temporary fix if you're looking for more I/O options than just 2 inputs, but if that's what you want now, then I would look at better converters for the moment.

Black Seal - I have a Delta 1010 also and was wondering if the step to Lucid is worth it. Would you say it is a night and day difference? Or slight difference?
