Finding a space - need advice (NY metro)

Home life and home studio life are starting to not work so well together, so I'm thinking of moving the lab. Any advice folks can impart on looking for/choosing studio space (particularly in & around NYC)? Any ideas of the price ranges involved?

Not aiming for much but a lil' pre-production lab... simple control room, no live room or anything. Just a spot for a computer, small-format desk, a few racks and some keys.

Thanks for any wisdom.

Peece,

Sound On Sound soundonsoundstudios.com has some office/writing room spaces available. It would come with the entire infrastructure (phones/dsl/reception etc). You could build it out however you wish.

I think he's looking for $1500 or so per month. Possibly available on a floating scale depending upon if you bring sessions to the rest of the facility.

Call Chris at 212-757-5300.

Yeah I saw that. The available hours he has for sharing (nights/weekends) wouldn't work though. Thanks though, Kent.

But really (this applies to the Sound On Sound idea too, Jan, but thanks), the move won't happen til March or thereabouts, so at this point, really just looking to collect info on the *process* of finding a space, focus my thoughts.... like: what issues I might overlook that others have found important, etc? Questions I should ask when looking at a spot?...
