Mixing / pitch correction workflow

What are people's recommended mixing work flow when working ITB?

For me its creating the backing track, vocal tracking, vocal comping and pitch correction, balancing the mix, then adding compression, EQ, effects, Compression, then mastering.

I used to get distracted all the time and try to add processing effects while comping, tracking. Does this approach sound about right?

this is an interesting topic and i am not expert. However, i try to pitch correct by hand in melodyne then re-import the vocals back into Logic. I think you have to add compression before mixing, to even out the level. Probably the last step of all is to automate the mix once the rough mix has been finished.

If I'm recording, then I will always do backing tracks first using whatever processing is needed to achieve the desired sound. I don't do vocals until the instrumental is sounding good and is edited smoothly, that way the vocalist isn't distracted by the music but can get into it naturally.

I have always looked at making records as being a 4 step process.
RECORD
EDIT
MIX
MASTER
There is no reason a mix engineer should ever have to think about editing... ever! It's amazing how many people ask "do you wanna add autotune to the vocals, or should we do it before we send the song?"... You have no business even mixing a song unless the tracks are exactly as you wish them to be.
There are already too many factors to worry about while mixing so it will help keep your mind in the creative mixing process if you take care of the headaches first.

I record - comp - tune most of the time in one session. I don't want to go back to tuning when mixing.
