Question Hardy M1-vs-Avalon 2022/M5

Looking closely at both. Primary use would be vox and ac gtr. Music styles would be country, folk, americana. May include tracking some elec gtr of the cleaner variety, possibly some duty on OH's.

Is there a diff in the M5 and 2022 other than 1 or 2 channels?

Looking for strong, accurate, 3-D, clear, and very mildly euphonic quality.

Recording to DAW.

So far, the Hardy just seems the lead horse.

Any insights appreciated ! :-)

Yes there is a difference.
The M5 can handle B&K Mic input with mod
The M5 by default is unbalanced out (there is a transformer option (and like))
The 2022 has adjustable impedence, the M5 is set at i think 1500.
The 2022 has adjustable output, the M5 only has input.
Theoretically the M5 is a bit more of a "purist" path.
They both share the same power supply

I love the M5 honestly...along the lines of supposedly similar or (cleanish) pres...i have compared it with over time directly and/or indirectly with

Masterling Labs
Martech MSS10s
Prism

I use Martechs often and would put it up with those any day IMO.

So how would the Hardy stack up with it?

Different sounds, same league. Subtle but clear. Subjective.

You need to hear the Hardy (or the dual servo) vs. the M5.

for vocal and acoustic stuff i would go with the pendulum mdp-1a or the quartet (if only one channel was needed and you get the bonus of a compressor, eq and de-esser).
good luck,
