Studer 820 owners

Does anyone have or know where I can find a pdf operator manual? I got mine from VK and they never supplied me a manual and I can't get a call back right now.

Perhaps someone could give me a few tidbits to solve my remaining questions.

I jacked around with it for a few hours and I was able to figure out the majority of what I needed, but here are my snag points.

1) I have 2 alignments stored right now in tape a and tape b. I aligned the machine manually. But I can't figure out how the hell the auto-align feature works.

2) Right now the bias preset is enabled. Luckily the presets are what I need. But I can't figure out how to change the paramater of the bias preset. Further, I can't figure out how to manually adjust the bias. It is not like my MCI. I tried with the same mentality as my JH24, but it wasn't the proper way on the studer. Any help is appreciated on this one.

3) This is the first machine I have owned with SR. I figured out how to turn the NRS on and it is auto calibrated. However I can't figure out how to switch from Dolby A to Dolby SR. The machine is equipped with the SR/A cards. All I can do is turn on and off A, but can't figure out how to switch to SR. ---- I also can't find any literature on how to calibrate/align the NRS. Any info is appreciated on this.

I know that's alot of information, but that's the sum of what I can't figure out right now.

Thanks in advance guys.

Studer Manuals

All Studer documentation is now public domain.
You can download technical and operational manuals from : ftp://ftp.studer.ch/public/Products/
This is the top level menu, you can navigate to the specific item you are looking for from there.

It's been a while since I used an 820, but I recall that the Dolby A/SR switching is done using a combination of buttons, one under the flap on the top of the deck, and another "enable" button, which I seem to recall in the case of the machines I used, was the "Stop" button. Hold the Stop button down and press the A/SR button and it should toggle between the two modes.
HOWEVER, because all the buttons are programmable, one machine is not necessarily the same as another.
Because of this, you really need to download the relevant manual(s) from the above site. The buttons are programmed using the Keys/Mode menu, which you scroll through using the thumbwheel control on the deck.
Apart from the fact I can't recall the exact details of button programming, it's far too complex to outline here.
There is a flowchart in the manual which helps to guide you through the process.
