Thread Starter | Big Ben or VHT pitbull?
I have a PT HD Accel 2 w/ a 192 and a Rosetta 800. I use the Rosetta 800 for my master clock and everything works fine even though I have it daisey chained to a few outboard devices, Jusrt sold some stuff and have $ to spend. Would you recommend a Apogee Big Ben for master clock or a VHT pitbull 50 amplifier. I mostly record hard rock music. Right now I have a Peavey 5150 combo, a mesa boogie rectifer preamp and marshall valvestate .. and a bunch of plugs .. gtr rig, amp farm, sans amp and amplitibe .. I know I am comparing apple and oranges , but what would be the better investment the VHT or the big ben? http://gearslutz.com/board/newthread...ead&forumid=1# Thanks |

without a doubt, buy the amp. The amp has the potential to save a session or make you look like a champ when somebody's got a crap rig. The Big Ben might impress your geeky engineer buddies who might hear a subtle improvement in the imaging above 8k blah blah blah....

Buying one "famous" amp (Engl + 4 x12) has done well for us at my studio. It continues to delight clients..

Yeah, nobody complains about having too many amps. But two clocks render one useless. |

The VHT will suit you well as it sounds distinctly different that the other amps you own. Buy a VHT 4x12 with it or their Fatbottom 2x12. If you don't have a ton of digital devices all working together a master clock isn't necessary, even though the BB is a nice one I'm sure your Rosetta 800 sounds pretty good as is. |

Ok. Thanks for the replies. Using Rosetta for masterclock isn't giving me problems. So if it ain't broke I'm not fixin it and I agree that you can never have enough amps ... just a question of where to put them.
