Ouch. Possibly the worst live tv trainwreck ever.

At the closing of the show when the host thanks the musical guests ashlee said something 'like sorry guys the band started playing the wrong song so idecided to do the hoe-down insted'... me i thought it was pretty stupid that she said it was 'the bands fault' when they at least kept playing and she just walked off the stage... Admitedly having watched a few episodes of her old 'reality' show, and seeing some her rehearsal and performing in the studio chops... i wonder how much of it was the bands fault, because its the same sort thing she would do on the show.... ... excuses excusestutt tutt

you know I remember thinking during the first song how dry her vocal sounded considering all the amps and stuff on stage.

I wonder who lost his job last night?

Brilliant. Now here I was hating Quicktime on PC, and not knowing there was an equivalent to this torture on the Mac. Bravo Microsoft!

Y'know this use of a computer in live performance has a way to go yet. I mean, why can't the software be smart enough to perceive the stunned glares from the band members, and switch to the right tune?

Quite a nice bit of pro musicianship from Ashlee, bailing off the stage like that, "way to roll with it girl!". Then hanging the band out to dry. Classic!

Hey buddy get a real media player

I hooked up my PC just to watch that. Hilarious. You'd think they'd have a backup rig ready to go for that...that is a serious screw up....

OH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!!

My God do I feel sorry for the band!

My singer is gonna love this. She'll be ranting for a month!

Ashley obviously doesn't know any better.

BUT

I think the assholes who put her behind a microphone should be fired! Who's the $$$ behind her? Let's expose them for the shit force-feeding that they're doing!

I've always said a little bit of professionalism goes a LONG way in this business. I guess this sets that idea back 100 years!

dfegad Ashley Simpson's producer!

I've seen computers crash at gigs, going down in flames while the band stands there for 5-10 minutes to reboot and relaunch all their apps. LOL

Does anyone remember the MTV awards when White Zombie lost the click track? Suckage.

I've been using a PC onstage since 1985. (Tandy 286 in a flight case stuffed with foam w/ Voyetra Sequencer +, woohoo! lol)

I've crashed many times throughout the years but for me, the good still outweighs the bad.

In all those years though, NOT ONCE have we ever not finished the song because of a crash. That's a serious no-no in my book. And walking off the stage? OMFG! Unbelievable! This includes all the female singers I've ever worked with. (I have somehow been blessed with working with female leads the entire time.)

The computer isn't to blame, or the operator, or the drummer, or the sound man, or my mom, etc.

FLAT OUT - Ashley has a shitty manager/producer or whoever's calling the shots! They're to blame!

She's not rehearsed enough with the band. SHE HASN'T PAID HER DUES!!! This type of thing should happen IN THE GARAGE, or at very least in some crappy ass dive bar BUT NOT ON NATIONAL TV.

Sorry for the yelling. This just really pushes my buttons.

You've got people in the trenches working every &#%ing piece of shit venue all across the nation, the real road warriors banging it out trying to make a couple of bucks to survive. I know, I've been there most of my life. Then we see this little girl who hasn't got a clue, falling to pieces on a gig I'd give my left nut to be on. It's wrong! Regardless of how much $ is behind her.

I don't have a problem with other people getting rich. More power to 'em. Maybe someday I'll join up. But in the meantime, this asshole producer/manager is stepping on MY toes by using $$$ to shove a BS product down the world's throat, lowering the standards for everyone!!!tutt

So there!

She must learn something very fast, never, ever, EVER blame shit on your band.

They'll get her in the long run, just you wait...

ummm... Saturday Night "Live" - that show has sucked for years anyway.

I'm not surprised, manufactured pop stars don't have enough live experience to deal with mishaps.

What are the odds the entire band screwed up? tutt

She should have just apologized for a technical malfunction. Blaming the band only adds fuel to the flames - and makes you want to slap her spoiled arse around.

In the end, it only matters what her 13 year old fans think.

I'm canceling my Ashlee fan club membership.

I heard about it this morning on the news.

Here is a fun bit to ad to the fire:

Quote:
Simpson has since been widely attacked for the snafu, with an interview she gave to Lucky magazine coming back to haunt her. When asked what her take on lip-synching was, she had told the magazine, "I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going to let my real talent show, not just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me."

He had the rig to his right.
forgot to cue up the next tune.

I put these rigs together for these bands and I ALWAYS slate the beginning of each track so the drummer knows what song is coming before the click.

poor planning regardless of where you stand on the philosphy.

So... does anyone think she will have the balls to sing "live" tonight on the radio awards at 9 on NBC? (With the auto tune, of course).

from the imdb news page

(link will be good for a day or two)

Quote:
Ashlee Simpson has owned up to lip-syncing, following an embarrassing Saturday night slip-up on live TV. The brunette singer, younger sister of Jessica Simpson, made an appearance on long-running comedy show Saturday Night Live, where she performed her hit single "Pieces Of Me." But when she was due to sing "Autobiography" track later on in the show, a pre-recorded track of her voice singing Pieces of Me began playing while Simpson was holding her microphone to the side and had her mouth closed - forcing her to exit the stage. And while she initially blamed her band for the incident, she now writes on her website that her voice was overworked. She says, "I'll hold my head high and say I think it was silly of me to do it, silly of me to blame the band, I was just so f**king embarrassed. But I don't think it did me much harm, and people will see that soon." A Saturday Night Live spokesperson says Simpson had planned to use a backing track, a common concert aid which allows singers to either mime or sing along with a guide-vocal track, to augment her voice. A statement from Simpson's record label blamed a "computer glitch" which triggered "a cut from her album" to play instead of a drum cue. The blunder has been all the more embarrassing for Simpson, because she recently expressed her disapproval of lip-syncing in an interview with Lucky magazine, explaining, "I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going to let my real talent show, not just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip- sync. It's just not me."

Her father/manager is now hitting the press saying it was a one-time only use of pre-recorded vox, and that it was because of her bulemia, err, I mean "acid-reflux" that had made her have a sore throat. :-)

He went on to state that they had hooked her up with Wayne Newton's drug doc and slapped her with cortisone injections (which will eventually perma-fry your voice, btw).

I know she is just a little kid getting smacked around hard on this one, but all the suits around her deserve all the ridicule they get.

Little kid my ass, she's a grown woman that needs to come clean and be accountable for both her actions and those of her "handlers". I know "kids" her age that have the maturity of a sage, so what's her excuse? Did she get the "Chicken of the Sea" genes from her sister?

Maybe I'm wrong on this one. After hearing her "sing" on the radio music awards, I'd go back to the backing tracks! My cat sounds more musical.

Naras should offer the "Milli Vanilli" grammy to her this winter. (Along with the "Rip Van Winkle" award to Steely Dan).

I had never heard of her until this clip - but shall never go out of my way for her! No cool, no talent, and absolutely no brains for blaming the band. If she had been cool she could have said the producer played the wrong vocal track.

But it is her own fault for not singing it her very own self.

How Milli!

<L>

PS thanks for posting it - I had heard about it but don't watch TV. Thanks!
