| Phase alignment plug Hi Folks While I'm familiar with flipping the phase on preamps/consoles/plugins when double micing kick/snares/toms/room mics etc and i understand about small alterations in mic positioning to improve phase relationships between mics...I'm keen to explore the benefits of some visual information to back up choices made with my ears. Is it possible to say buss the signals from two separate mics to a stereo Auxillary and insert some kind of phase meter to have a squizz at whats going on? Can someone let me in on some techniques with phase meters/ocilliscopes preferably of the plugin variety to get a look at whats going on between two mic signals technically? Please refrain from such comments as "just use your ears blah blah blah" I'm well along the way there, I'm just interested in some visual reference to back up what I'm hearing. Thanks! |

| I think there is a phase meter plug in that comes with PT. |

| Gear nut | I think the phase meter the previous poster is speaking of is actually a correlation meter. I'm not sure of a phase meter within pro tools, but you might find this useful. TriTone Digital - For The Love of Tone!

| I'm not sayin you shouldn't look at anything visually, but just because 2 mics are perfectly in phase doesn't mean that's the best they will sound. Phase relationship alters the tone and frequency response and can be a great way to get a sound/tone without using eq. I guess all I'm sayin is perfectly in phase is not always perfect for the track.
