That was the first decent microphone and preamp combo I bought. I'll say this, it is a striking looking pair! And the sound is very nice too, really depends on what you want to record...

I used the two on female vocals, acoustic guitar, hand percussion, mostly ballad-type work. Very nice, musical sound, the combinations of U195 Fat/Normal/HPF/Pad and Grace HPF/Trim controls can provide a few tone options. BTW the Grace DI is very nice too IMO.

For more powerful sounds, this setup doesn't compete with many others. But for the price and quality it is very respectable and reliable, also quite portable if you do location work.

The Grace has little "sound" to it, its a very neutral pre - its a nice match with a U195, try it on acoustic guitar, you'll be pleased...

u195 and Grace

We have a U195 that we use with a Buzz Ma2.2 and Phoenix DRS2. The U195 is a great all around LDC mic and an excellent first choice for a mic in the $1000 range that can do it all. The Grace is decent but not my first choice. I would go for a Phoenix DRS1 instead if that fits your budget constraints. Calistro music sells these at a good price.
