Motu 8pre vs M-Audio Profire 2626

Hey guys,
looking for some advice on a new interface. The additional outputs on the pf2626 would be nice, but which one actually sounds better? Any other comments are greatly appreciated too.

Cheers

just got the 2626 and it sounds great. i was looking between the same 2 units ( and a couple others) and if you search some threads around here the 2626 came up head-n-shoulders above the MOTU.

how about the projectmix i/o vs the profire 2626. i've come across lots of people selling theirs for around $700.

I just got a Profire 2626 and instantly noticed better conversion than my old Firepod that I sold. I still have never even used the preamps cause I have other outboard pre's. I'm looking at getting a Mytek 8x96 to use with the ADAT in's.

friend of mine had one for a while. he loved the "hands-on" you get from it but never said anything about the converters or pre's on it.
I've personally never heard or demo'd one.
i do know if you go thru GC Pro you can haggle the price down. i got a pretty good deal on mine.

i haven't used my pre's yet either. my band hasn't practiced since i got it and everything else i do is techno.

I just recently heard some not so good things about the Dice2 technology used in the 2626, see this thread:
Home Recording dot com BBS

But I was wondering if anyone has compared these two units because I'm interested in the difference in preamp/converter quality (if there is any noticeable difference). After reading a bit through the threads Bitfiend posted it seems the 8pre may be lacking in this area... ?

Is it worth rolling the "dice" so to speak and take a chance with the 2626? If I do get that I may get it through GC so I can promptly return it if I have any issues.
