| Setup help! what up yall im new to this board so help a rookie out! i was thinking of changing around my setup (hip hop music) right now i have: Oktava MK319 Condenser mic DBX vacuum tube preamp MIA Echo soundcard as you can see i have no compressor i have about a $600 budget so here is what i was looking into RODE NT1000 Condenser mic ... (i have heard that it is good for hip hop vox)....$250 E-MU 1212 soundcard (have heard its the best on the market for the price and much better than the MIA Echo) $200 PreSonus Comp16 Compressor $100 and if i have enough $$ left i might upgrade my preamp but i wouldnt know what to upgrade to what does everyone think of both setups and is my new approach a much better solution? should i mix and match? any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you and goodnight!

| Bonus, $600 is not going to provide much of an upgrade. IMO, there isn't much difference in the quality of microphones in that price point. The E-Mu card's convertes is indeed better than the Mia, but they're not Appogee, Benchmark, or Mytek. If upgrdaing a card, I'd look at RME or Lynx cards and some outboard converters. Why do you feel that you need a compressor? Going into a DAW, just keep your levels at between -6 and -3 db, and record at 24 bits. Then if you feel you need some leveling compression, use a plug-in during mixdown. A cheap compressor will definately do more harm than good. I have no experience with your pre, so I won't comment. I'd learn how to use what you have, before upgading to anything. Save your money. Make music. Make the room in which you record sound as good as possible. I know this isn't the advice you're looking for. But, it's the best I can offer. Best of Luck Axeman |

| You might want to post that in the low end forum. They might have some ideas for you. IF I were you I would do something with upgrading one thing at a time. Better to get one very good piece than a bunch of ok things. |
