Is it anything like that MTV make your own music game?

Hope full it will die like that too....

Us AE's have enough problems with "musicians that know how to work everything" without this....

I guess I'm not happy about it...........

I'm sure it's fun to play with though....

Come to think of it....it could lead to more work though.....having to make stems of everything so it can be loaded into the software........hmm...

Yes it's interesting, it brings up all sorts of issues..

I expect some mixers and producers will be unwilling to be involved in such practice, others will
be glad to take the work.

I wonder how covered mixers are who have already completed mixes with no contractual terms agreed on this type of scenario..

Apparently there are a number of US and UK major acts signing up to the idea..

Just yesterday I had a student (freshman) ask me how he could do his own mix of a commercial CD. (he was bored with the tracks that I brought in to class to practice mixing on) He was very disappointed to learn that there was no way to extract the information from the already mixed tracks. I get this question every semester without fail.

imagine a day when consumer music disks (something with HUGE storage) come with ALL the Tracks (not just stems) All the plug ins would already be on there and all the instructions for automation. Like a big Pro Tools session - or whatever software standard they devise.

If you didn't want to do anything you could just press play and hear it "as is" - or you could choose some basic presets like Vocal Up or Vocal Down or Less Reverb or More Cowbell or you could customize it to your heart's content.

And like DVDs with Director's Cuts and Alternate Endings there could be included alternate mixes by Guest AEs or you could download Alternate Mixes from the Internet(s).

The technology is just about here, the only question is demand. I think the demand would be quite high. My guess is that fully half of my students would rather do that very thing, i.e. remix popular songs, than any other audio production activity including tracking a live band or working on original music.

If everybody can be their own mixer does this hurt the professional AE's- or could there be a market for mixers with style to sell their versions of popular songs. What a mess. I already miss the day when the Final Mix was just that- Final

This is opening the door for a higher level of copyright infringement. Now you wont even have to wait for the break or the bass solo to come in to start sampling other peoples work.
In addition to this people will want to share their new mixes, perhaps even profit from them, funky.

Pretty soon they're gonna make a plugin with just one button.
"SONG".

You press it, a 'hit' comes out. Done.

VST , AU, and RTAS.
