Alice In Chains "Tripod"

Y'know, the one with the 3-legged dog on it. I've seen Toby Wright mentioned a few times here, but cranking this disc up today reminded me what a MONSTER record this is.

Drums HUGE. Dark and Evil sounding but clear and present. Vocal sounds are amazing (even considering the amazing vocalist).

yeah great stuff... Jar of Flies is up there too. Come to think of it, all of their albums are pretty badass!

What's Toby been up to lately? anyone?

I talked to him afew weeks ago. He said he got married, and was moving to Seattle.
He didn't say he had been working on anything lately.

did he bring his flatbed truck of Summit gear?

That's a great idea... his Tape-Op interview was very cool.

One of my favorites also
That album, and the Jar of Flies EP are my favorites. I think Toby also mixed their unplugged cd/dvd although I like it, I don't think that's where he really shines

I hear it transforms into a RoboCop

Wonder if his rig has gone through many changes since that pic... I see ADATs, 888s, Mac 9600, Barney Rubble might be hiding in there too, can't tell for sure...

ya that's an old pic...rec'd with BC in '99 at Eldorado and then at Track in North Hollywood.

I assume all the front end stuff is similar, probably the Alsihad stuff is updated.

I wish I could say the joystick is for surround mixing, but I think it's for playing Doom.

Tons of fun recording guitars with Brian. Also fun having huge PA in the drum room. Very inspiring. He's obsessive in all the right ways but lets the sessions run pretty loose. He's good people.

If God intended us to mix with joysticks Digidesign would've been bought by Atari.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

Up this thread goes...

Toby is a master. I love Tripod. My fav AIC album. I don't know what was happening in engineering and mixing field in mid 90's but my favorite sounding records are all pretty much from 1994-1996.
