Thursday 28th Oct San Francisco AES 2004 Gearslutz Dinner RSVP thread

Many thanks to Dave G for organising this here is his message:

------------

Ok... Thursday it is, and the Thai place is expecting us. In case I forgot to post it earlier, it's called Cha-Am, at 701 Folsom St, just off the corner of Folsom and 3rd, behind (to the Southeast of) the Moscone Center. Here's a map.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...rchtype=search

I told them 7pm -- sound good??

---------

Yes it DOES sound good and thanks again Dave!

Dave can you get the place to run a system of seperate bills? In my experience that point needs to be made REPEATEDLY as it is far easyier for waiters to run a giant bill. BUT THIS WILL NOT WORK OUT AT ALL!!!!! So - we need to hammer the point home especially at the start of the evening.

So RSVP here please!

We can expect at least 20 last min attendees

Add me in, maybe +1, for a drop by, though I'm not sure how long I can stay.

I can't pass up the chance to meet some of you peeps in person.

I updated the running headcount total above.

We're definitely still in search of a good post-dinner hang. Anyone with ideas or suggestions on the subject, please post in the after dinner thread ... soon!

Some of the places mentioned as possible dinner places still work as post-grub drinking spots.

From closer to further:

Thirsty Bear
Kate O'Briens
Rickenbacker’s

I'll do some recon tomorrow night - see if there is anything new I'm not thinking of.

And just for kicks (and since I got dragged there last night) you should all know about the bowling alley on top of Moscone behind the carousel.

A dinky place that is easily 'taken over' by a large group. The smallest bar in the world (defies description) and beer that isn't kept cold enough.

But the sheer oddness of it all works sometimes.

Not a bad place to sneak off to if things get boring in the middle of the day.

I'm staying in North Beach and I am from SF. As an after dinner bar I have always enjoyed drinking til the enterprise beams me home at Vesuvios on Columbus or the place across the street.

Room for one more?

Hey dave-G, is there any truth to the rumor that you'll be bringing Pam Oliver?

OK everyone wise up and go get a pass from Eve Anna - and we can go hang at the Manley NHT free beer party after dinner!

Is it nearby?

I heard cabs were cheap in SF is that true?

Hey Jules,
Yeah my party is 1.42 miles away so if it is walkable or not depends on the desire and fitness of the pedestrian. But cabs are cheap.

Here's a map showing directions...

Let's all party!

In San Francisco, it wouldn't hurt to have a topographical map when trying to determine if something's in walking distance. Perhaps we should use the term "hiking distance!"

(Actually IIRC, in that part of town, I suppose that walking distance is the more appropriate term...)

Best,

Geoff

Yeah, I know it would be a lot easier if everyone made plans in advance, but I'm still trying to figure out how much time I can spend up there. If I do get there in time for the Thursday night dinner, are last minute walk-ins OK? (is that what Jules' +20 is for? Or does he have a posse that follows him everywhere?)
