Hooking Up Mackie 32x8 to an Alesis HD24

The Direct Outs and Insert sends on the Mackie 32x8 are both unbalanced, however the inputs are balanced. An Alesis HD24 recorder has both balanced ins and outs.

My major question is, if I am keeping an unbalanced connection for direct outs to HD24 ins, should I make balanced or unbalanced connections from the HD24 to the Mackie Ins?

If the input of the HD24 is unbalanced, can the output be "really" balanced?

Use unbalanced cables throughout and you should be fine.

You can use balanced from the HD24 to the line inputs on the Mackie if you want.

Yes, the outputs can really be balanced.
